Bettie was my neighbor in the east village of Manhattan. She was spirited, whip smart and knew more about the city and its history than anyone I'd ever met. She impressed me, changed my outlook and showed me a way of life I'd never seen. 

I made these drawings, savoring the small everyday moments around the city, for her.
